round corneringAfter university I got a job in a factory making cardboard picture mounts - the sort you get school and graduation photos in. Obviously, you cut rectangular blocks of card with a guillotine, but some photographers like round corners - so there's a machine with a quarter-circle die that goes up and down, that cuts the corners off. 12 hour night shifts, rounding corners off 10s of 1000s of mounts, a dozen at a time. Up and down, up and down. It still haunts me.
Not sure it's worse than a PhD, though.
