In unrelated news, my dog, who featured on the Best page of the Stalked QOTW has been missing since thursday. :(

You could try the local council roads department in case, y'know.
They keep a record of domestic animals found dead in the street. At least you'd be able to rule that out.

I really hope you find your dog. You must be frantic with worry. I keep dogs and daren't imagine how awful you must be feeling.

Hope your puppy comes back soon. When our cat went missing we put up posters in the neighbourhood with his picture on them. Our neighbours were great, helped in the search, and helped find him eventually; alive! Posters really help.

Thanks for the support.
I live in France though, so there is little in the way of official options plus the area I live in is populated by asshole farmers and hunters who have little regard for animal life.

She is quite heavily pregnant too. My only hope is that she has hidden herself away somewhere to have her puppies alone, and will come back. A few people have suggested this may be the case, but they also say she should have returned for food long before now.

this is NOT a joke suggestion:
Have you considered borrowing and using another dog to find her?

I know dogs don't instinctively know how to follow a scent trail, they need to be trained; but you might get lucky.

I figure that since they're always into sniffing each other and have a good sense of smell, there's a fair chance of success (Use her basket/blanket for a sample perhaps).

(edit: Those very same hunters might be a solution, probably having tracking-trained dogs; maybe ask to hire their services?)

phew
6 days after going missin, she turned up at the door this morning. thin as a rake and manky, but warm and dry. She woofed down a load of food and left. I followed har about 1/4mile through woodland to a hole in a bank where she disappeared inside.

I counted at least 6 puppies.

CAUTION - Newborn fluff.


After a fruitless afternoon spent lying in mud trying to coax her out again, I was set to give up for the day and returned to the house.
Surprisingly, she turned up at the door a few minutes later, so I shut her inside and dashed back to the hole with my improvised puppy-catcher - A garden hoe with some cloth wrapped round the end. I scooped the little ones out of their den and brought them into the house, where she lifted them out the box and into the nestbox I made for her.
All seem settled and happy enough.
The photos I took arent the best quality, as she is a little nervous about me handling them, so I just left her in peace.
There are 9 pups, a mix of black-and-white and black-and-tan.
