If ever there was a case for the monopolies commission...
surely the DVLA shows what happens when there's only one way of going about things, through one fucked up, useless department after another, none of whom feel compelled to help.
I know a bloke who was a trucker for years, (he's in his 50s now) and sent his license off for renewal, photo and that, got a letter back off 'em saying they had no record of him ever having held a license, and so they had helpfully thrown away both parts of the one he'd sent in for renewal!
Poor bloke had to go through his car test again, basically as if he was a new driver just starting out on the roads, doing theory tests, HP and all that, then go through the long process of getting his HGV license back (there are 3 theory tests and 3 practical tests that you have to take to be able to drive a lorry for reward nowadays, takes 2 months minimum really, mine took 6! (while costing ££££s)) so he can keep doing the same job he's had since he was 21, all while battling with the DVLA appeals procedure, which is basically non-existent.
Utter, utter cunts.
