One drunken evening my friend slid down the lower part of the escalator handrail.
"I'll have a piece of that action" thought I, and duly followed suit.

Unable to stop, at the bottom I smacked full-force into a woman, sending her absoutely bloody flying. It was with huge gratitude that I saw her get up, storm over and slap me hard around the face, followed by a backhand.

My friend stepped in to try and apologise on my behalf and got exactly the same.

Once the initial terror of nearly committing manslaughter in public had subsided, I was able to see it was one of the singularly most funny things I've ever seen.
