Wrap a shoelace or equivalent around your left hand (across the palm) two or three times and then pull the end of the lace sharply down. This should stem the flow. Used many times on many different subjects: always successful.
Would love to take the credit for this but I was shown this by a coach at a kids football match.

.....in Jujitsu is the name of this technique for stopping nosebleeds (or headaches apparently).
It also sounds like a bunch of total arse - "I wrapped a shoelace around his hand and only 4-8 mins later the nosebleed stopped..."

which is totally true and also a little bit bizarre, as it's the first i've had in years. I am however unable to try your tip. Just a tissue for me.
