The best training course I ever went on
comprised 5 contiguous weekdays (for which I had to take leave*) and then sufficient voluntary weekend sessions to be allowed to take a winch launch and fly a circuit solo in a glider. All paid for by the company.

I sit back in my chair with my croissant and glass of Amarone.

*It was no biggie - I was getting 32 1/2 days, plus bank holidays, annually at the time

We had half a dozen flights in the preceding four weeks to get used to the airfield operations
But, yes, I was a complete novice and very nervous. It took me until the Thursday on the week-long course to stop giggling nervously. I think four or five went solo during the intensive week, with about 30 flights under their belts - it took me a year and about a hundred flights, but I got there in the end.
Thermalling on my own at 10kts up under a big cloud in rough air is simultaneously the most terrifying and exhilarating thing I've ever done.

It was work related
The idea was that we were to be given an appreciation of the workload in a cockpit of a fast jet or other military aircraft.
Admittedly a glider doesn't have the avionics that a fighter has but on the other hand, not having an engine does raise the ante somewhat.

Last job I had
the manger organised mandatory training with an outside training company for 3 days into my holiday *after* I'd booked them and told me I had to attend upon pain of death or jobloss.
Unfortunately for him I have been a union rep. most of my working life and knew absolutely my rights and responsibilities.
I enjoyed telling him to shove that idea up his bottom & then tell him that since he had stipulated that this training was mandatory he could organise another session just for me once I returned from my annual leave. Which he did because he had to.

I'd love to glide on my own - went up once with my mum, but Id definitely pay to do that.
