This is a question My most treasured possession

What's your most treasured possession? What would you rescue from a fire (be it for sentimental or purely financial reasons)?

My Great-Uncle left me his visitors book which along with boring people like the Queen and Harold Wilson has Spike Milligan's signature in it. It's all loopy.

Either that or my Grandfather's swords.

Wedding rings etc.
A lot of people have been talking about rings - wedding, engagement and other sorts. This reminded me that last week when I was in Prague, I was looking through the mineralogy section in the Czech national museum. I saw an example of an Australian opal stone and decided there and then that when I get married, I'm getting a ring with an opal in it.

Do you have any ideas on what your ideal vision of a wedding ring should be?

...
invisible.

nah
I'm just being glib.

Plain gold band.

I wear a Russian wedding ring (triple band/rolling ring) on my right hand because I like them and always wanted one and found a gold one on ebay for 20 quid last year.

I like them because when you open them out they look like a venn diagram.

I am that sad.

I'm sad too
coz the bit about the Venn-diagram intrigues me. Do tell more.

Take the
Olympic rings.

Chuck away two.

^ Yes
but make sure it's the outer two, leaving the inner three interconnected.

^ Yeah
What you said.

That reminds me
Of the time I was in the Tate Modern, having taken a load of mushrooms.

@CHCB
I'm not sure how comfortable the ring is but I'm sure being able to make resizable Venn diagrams with it more than makes up for it.

More Venn diagram goodness
here.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 12:23, closed)
mad venn diagrams
make my eyes bleed

sorry to be a killjoy
but if u do get an opal ring, be very careful, they are soft, and known for falling out of rings

Well, I've had 2 so far
One gold one with diamonds in it, and one plain platinum band.
Both marriages didn't last. I think I shouldn't get married anymore.

That's very odd
Me and the new S.O. were looking round an antique shop last weekend and noticed a bucketload of opal rings.

I love opals
I went to Australia with my Dad when I was 18, and he bought my stepmom an opal. I wanted to buy one, but had no one to buy one for at the time. Now I'm married, but my wife's brother just bought her an opal so not sure if there's any point in me doing so anymore.
My wedding band is platinum. It's not as durable as I would have thought. 5 years in, and it has several scratches. It has 2 grooves that run almost the full circumference of the ring (the part on the bottom of my finger is just plain). Then it has two things that I call "shoulders". Just to the left and right of the center of the top of my finger, there's an extra bit of metal, with grooves running parallel to my finger. Kind of like:

These are really different, some have wood incorporated in the designs.
