I think it's because the traditional zombie apocalypse would be easier for unhealthy internet types
if zombies moved slowly. (The supposition is inherently flawed as statistically you're far more likely be a zombie than a survivor.)

Also, Left 4 Dead is well, extremely fucking difficult even with a large supply of automatic weapons lying about.

As for vampires, 99% of vampires are rubbish, even Luke Goss in Blade 2.
