The Pigeon Troll Is Out There
marcvaldez.blogspot.com/2007/04/bird-man-of-fresno-one-mans-nuisance-is.html

A man known in Fresno, California for feeding local pigeons had passed away, and I wanted to highlight his gentle legacy. Within hours, a bloodthirsty anti-pigeon fanatic from the UK found the post, took aim, and fired.

(Apologies - the fanatic's link no longer functions. His pictures of shotguns and piles with hundreds of dead pigeons each said it all).

Perhaps the anonymous Pigeon Troll IS here!

My favorite pigeon is the New Zealand Pigeon. When I arrived in Auckland and toured the museum there, I read about this 'noble' bird in an exhibit. It's the world's largest pigeon! But when I saw it in its natural forest habitat, it was clear the bird was far too large to fit in the forest canopy. It doesn't fly so much as it blunders through the branches. There is no bird anywhere as absurd as the New Zealand Pigeon, which is why we must keep the Pigeon Troll from ever going there, because we must preserve and protect absurdity in the natural world.
