Sure, it's illegal, but... why do you care? I'd much rather go to a good garage who flout the smoking ban than a crap one.

And "around potential petrol spills" is a silly reason. Petrol doesn't just spill, unless they were doing something like dropping a fuel tank, in which case most people would have the sense not to smoke!

Let them do what the hell they want on their own premesis, if they're not hurting you, eh?
