Liszt also contributed to music in other ways than composing: by reputation he was an excellent performer (and not just on the fast stuff) and he taught extensively in later life without charging for his lessons, since he lamented the increasing commercialization of the art of music. Shame that the same can't be said of many modern musicians. Liszt also donated much of his later concert income to charity.

Rachmaninov on the other hand deserted his homeland in order to make a quick buck performing in the US. Fucking sell-out!
