I don't mind The Smiths
in much the same way that I don't mind Westlife. For some reason, this seems to be more offensive to Smiths fans than saying I loathe them.

a Smiths fan can feel utterly superior because you're clearly a philistine. If you don't mind them then they can't really lecture you or despise you and it's all very disappointing.

I totally see your point here, one lot are made up of effete wankers putting out saccharine hackneyed bilge to an easily-pleased crowd of easily led teens and the others are Westlife.
