This is a question "You're doing it wrong"

Chthonic confesses: "Only last year did I discover why the lids of things in tubes have a recessed pointy bit built into them." Tell us about the facepalm moment when you realised you were doing something wrong.

Joey Deacon
Until a few months ago (and courtesy of B3tans) I never realised who Joey Deacon actually was. Really I didn't.

I was at school when everyone started belming (usually not at me, though), and I thought Joey Deacon was probably some musician or band or something who just wasn't played on Radio 2 (the permanent background accompaniment at home then).

Dont you mean...
John Deacon?

Queen's drummer?

Also flails his arms around like a spaz?

Who, him?

Until now
Neither did I. I thought he was just some random person from Google Images. You learn something every day eh

I thought the 'belming' (not that I'd heard that word until b3ta either) was just a generic representation of people with mental difficulties rather than a specific person. There you go!

Amazing displays of ignorance was a few weeks ago wasn't it, you're doing it wrong ;)

I had to google him just now.
According to wikipedia he died the year I was born, so I don't feel bad for not knowing who he was.

He was a brilliant bloke.
I used to work with people with cerebral palsy back when they were labelled 'mentally subnormal' and packed off to institutions. It's a motor condition, y'see, nothing wrong with their thinking processes. I bet we have people with CP posting on here.

I still work with people with severe CP now and then, usually in their 40s or older. For various reasons it's a lot less common these days.
(Though very premature babies are prone to it so as we save more of them, the numbers are rising slightly.)

If I remember correctly...
Blue Peter had an appeal to raise money in order to build Mr Deacon a "special" house, featuring loads of features in order to assist him in gaining some independence.

Bit of a shame that he died just before the house was completed.

Fuckwit!
