Does it have both fwd and reverse? If so, maybe you have the selection button in between the two, instead of having either fwd or reverse fully selected.

No no I've pushed the button in fully in either direction.It won't turn on either clockwise or anticlockwise. And it's fully charged, or at least, it's been on charge for a few hours.
