The difference is,
Rugby players are animals on the pitch but gentlemen in the clubhouse. Footballers are supposed to be the opposite.
/edit - criteria for choosing a team? The one with the clubhouse within staggering distance of your house. There will be a lot of drinking.

It'll be a good half hour's walk after a match though. I spent many happy hours at St Neots rugby club when my kids were younger.

It's character building. Besides they needed to be strong to carry their mum home.
