It's things like
this which make me want to start watching rugby. What's the criteria for supporting a rugby team?
I'm fine with football, you just shout and swear a lot while drinking Stella and beating people up for wearing a different colour sweater to you.

The BBC's video player crashes my browser 9 times out of 10.
I've tried using IE for when I want to use iPlayer but that doesn't help.

Also: reasons german footballers are harder than any pansy rugby player

tried updating to the latest version of flash?
if not I'll send a bug report in.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:40, archived)
yup, everything is right up to date.
It's only the iplayer on the entire internet that does it.

The BBC delivery manager for downloading BBC stuff crashes it too
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:41, archived)
it appears to have no problems on my obscure Linux browser,
if that helps.

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:46, archived)
It's not browsers,
I've tried several. I don't know what it is.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:46, archived)
what browser are you packing?

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:41, archived)
i'm guessing netscape navigator 1, no offence
forum banter, great times

Newest firefox, upgraded everytime there's an upgrade.
It's been going on for ages.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:45, archived)
hmm, god I hate firefox at the mo
its a bag of shit getting. Crashing all the time, grr. I would try chrome, see if thats better? (thought the beeb should fix it)
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:48, archived)
It happens with IE too.
What does the iPlayer use? Just flash?
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:49, archived)
flash and a javascript library to load the flash
Its a pretty robust bit of kit and I would suggest it might be something on your end. Like the version of flash.

It's every day
since just after the olympics, no matter what I do to my computer.

It works on my netbook :(
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:45, archived)
Daft as it sounds
Why not just watch it on the netbook?
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:50, archived)
19" widescreen agains 8.9" screen for one.
Surround sound rather than headphones for another.

Also, without rejigging it (which I haven't done yet) you get choppy playback for full screen for embedded players.

See that bloke on the left?
that's what's wrong with football
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:37, archived)
Fucking hell
This is why Rangers suck.

How should you act then?

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:47, archived)
i don't support a rugby team so i can not assist you, sorry, no offence
great

He's a right proper cunt

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:39, archived)
I can't play that media
I'm assuming from the still shot it was some kind of end of match slow dance with each others erections hidden by pressing it into the other
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:39, archived)
You're pretty much there.
And so am I.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:48, archived)
I don't really do rugby, sorry Eyebrow.

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:39, archived)
I find it a lot more difficult to get excited about rugby than football.
But it's a lot easier to get drinks bought for you in a rugby pub than a football pub.

Swings and roundabouts, eh.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:40, archived)
It's a bit like that,
but you have to drink Tennents instead.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:40, archived)
Or Guinness.

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:58, archived)
Although I got abuse for it earlier...
I don't like football. I'm a rugby man.

Criteria for rugby support are pretty broad. Choose the team that is local to you, drink real beer and have banter rather than fights with supporters of the opposite team.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:41, archived)
Ummm
are we in 1985? I haven't been to a football match that there's been any violence at for about 15 years.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:44, archived)
Ummm
are we in 2000?

About this good.

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:50, archived)
Hahaha
nice.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:50, archived)
would you like to come to wembly with me for the division one play off final, millwall end? no offence
great times
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:45, archived)
I've been to see Millwall several times
far too many police/stewards/cameras about for any trouble. I'm sure it still goes on occasionally...
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:48, archived)
the ticket allocation for the away game at leeds was funny, or not, no offence,
top times
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:52, archived)
Disabled supporters only?

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:55, archived)
1000 tickets, to be collected from the police just outside leeds at a service station and then escorted to the ground and out again, a convoy if you like, or not, no offence
great
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:57, archived)
You going on Saturday, then?

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 21:03, archived)
i'm not sure, i could have tickets but i'm not a millwall fan and i think that is a bit poor, no offence
great
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 21:08, archived)
So pretty much like the proper criteria for football support
for the majority of fans?
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:45, archived)
Very possibly.
I really don't know much about football though. Having lived just down the road from Fratton Park for 3 years though I saw more fights than I have at rugby matches over the years.

Mind you that is Fratton Park, i'm told it is one of the rougher ones.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:55, archived)
Ah
it is a bit of a timewarp down there.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:57, archived)
Maybe it has coloured my view of 'the beautiful game'

cor, it's gone all wrestling
there'll be bouncing heads off the goalposts next, and mid-match announcements that someone is in league with the forces of darkness

or in union with them

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:43, archived)
*taps nose*

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:50, archived)
I'd LOVE to see some sort of bell that goes, whereupon
a group of wrestlers pile on the pitch and start pummelling the players.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:49, archived)
Being posh/from the North West
I think.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:41, archived)
The difference is,
Rugby players are animals on the pitch but gentlemen in the clubhouse. Footballers are supposed to be the opposite.
/edit - criteria for choosing a team? The one with the clubhouse within staggering distance of your house. There will be a lot of drinking.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 20:54, archived)
Coventry play less than ten minutes' walk away.

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 21:03, archived)
That is probably the right distance away.
You need to be able to crawl it if needs be. There will be some point it happens.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 21:07, archived)
That's your dilemma solved then.
It'll be a good half hour's walk after a match though. I spent many happy hours at St Neots rugby club when my kids were younger.
(, Mon 18 May 2009, 21:08, archived)
you are dead to me.

(, Mon 18 May 2009, 21:19, archived)
You must have played rugby at school
It's character building. Besides they needed to be strong to carry their mum home.
