that there's a basic human psychology trait that's very common, that means people will skimp on material necessities in order to afford things that boost their social status.
Quite interesting.

I don't know. If I see a nice cardi I'd rather have that than lunch, so I suppose I'm just as bad.

could be anything really. I guess going out a lot and getting drunk improves your social standing in some circles. People who stay in being sensible are boring losers, see.

Every time I go out for the night I get bored, cold and annoyed though. It's much better staying inside where only people I like are allowed to go.

but eating properly comes first. Maybe it's connected to my general lack of sex drive, I dunno. The theory is, you see, that evolutionarily, survival isn't the only important thing. You could live to a thousand but if you never got a mate it wouldn't do your genes any good. So actually there's a compromise between survival behaviours and social behaviours. Social status increases your chances of attracting a mate.

-most people I don't know already are quite disappointing
-pubs are full of teenagers
-it's quite expensive.
I'm not really good at the whole 'get up and go' thing at the best of times, certainly not when I have to pay money to only vaguelly enjoy it if I even do so at all.

at least, they are here and now. The student bars were bargain bonus. I didn't skimp on either eating or getting pissed in those days.
I like my regular, but I wouldn't go there every night like I used to be able to. The worst is when Spacefish's work friends invite us to a night out, because they always go to these trendy bars, and they're expensive and I don't much feel like I really fit in.

which is alright, and we play there, but it's always full of kids who needlessly annoy me.
If pubs did coffee more, I'd be more inclined to go.

I've never had it there, though. They do excellent food at more than reasonable prices, and you wouldn't believe the size of their bowls of nachos.
It's a right old goth haunt, I'm not a goth myself, but they're a friendly, non-intimidating bunch.

The only reason I touch the glasses is because my mate tends bar there and I know he's cleaned out the pot washer.

I don't know if it's ever any good though.

or at least, that's my observation. Also the larger chain pubs, which it also isn't.

I'd rather have a quiet drink at home or in a nice pub though. And I'm pretty certain getting drunk, and therefore making a fool of myself, has only ever left me lower in the social leagues than improving my standing!
