I couldn't stand him then either, but I was genuinely interested in his take on it since he'd had well-documented addiction issues.
It was indeed enlightening to read how he tackled them, but what was also striking was that his relentless narcissism meant he was totally unable to conceive of how anyone else's life, personality and circumstances could possibly differ from his. In short, his solution to addiction problems was: be me, and do what I did.
