Maybe I'm being a stoopid
but Trump's all about fossil fuels and tarrifs on China... but Musk's business is about electric cars and selling stuff around the world. How have Musk's shares sky-rocketed since the elction? I am not understand.

Musk is going to replace Trump with an android replica which will do his bidding.
On the plus side, it'll catch fire after 5 minutes.

I can see the tech shares doing okay, ABC, Apple and Meta
but Tesla's a car company. They'll need to be selling cars on a huge global scale to have any chance of meeting their market valuation and if the USA puts up huge trade barriers with China BYD and the other Chinese car makers will start offloading their stock cheap, Tesla will see a huge drop in sales and from a quick search it looks like half of all Teslas are made in China anyway. How the hell is that going to work? Yet... they must have some kind of a plan because that's why Musk backed Trump. I just can't see how they square such conflicting positions.

Isn't the answer that Musk is not the business brain that people believe him to be?

No. I forgot.
There are robots and autonomous taxis. I will grant Musk credit as being one of the most brilliant money-raisers of all time, and the disruption to the car market with Tesla EVs has been incredible. He's succeeded by using money and momentum to drive through barriers but I just can't see how the robots and self-driving taxis are going to work for a looooong time to come and they simply cannot be cheap. Teslas are not self-driving. They can cope with most road situations, but not-crashing MOST of the time isn't good enough when it comes to letting them loose on the world. Nah-ah.
