# i reckon they might have suspected it was rabid.
what it did was pretty out of character for a fox.

# ^ this
suspected rabies is treated pretty much as "kill it now and give anybody who's been near/might have been bitten a rabies shot immediately".

reason being: rabies in humans is not only fatal but also untreatable after a few days and AFAIK the only sure way to detect if an animal has it is by autopsy and that can take a while.

# Hmm. I'll have to remember this for if I ever have a pet that needs putting down, would certainly save money on vet bills.
"Hello, police? I think my goldfish has rabies!"

# rabies shots are unpleasant though
and expensive.

# I'll assure them that I wasn't bitten.
Maybe tell them it bit my neighbours, seeing as they're cunts.

# there's no rabies in land mammals in the UK
the fox was liklely injured in the trap so they put it down. It's no surprise they caught one but who knows if it was that one or any other fox at all.

# the uk is 'officially' rabies free
but there's nothing to stop a fox slipping on a channel tunnel train in france and getting over here. It's pretty unlikely admittedly, but they are uber-careful with suspected rabies cases.
