# Well, they did manage to catch a fox. I found this bit weird:
"A vet was called to establish if it was safe to move the animal. It was determined it was not and the fox was humanely killed by the pest controller at approximately 12.15am."

Not safe to move it? Surely all you need is a thick pair of gloves and a big stick for if it gets lairy.

suspected rabies is treated pretty much as "kill it now and give anybody who's been near/might have been bitten a rabies shot immediately".

reason being: rabies in humans is not only fatal but also untreatable after a few days and AFAIK the only sure way to detect if an animal has it is by autopsy and that can take a while.

the fox was liklely injured in the trap so they put it down. It's no surprise they caught one but who knows if it was that one or any other fox at all.

but there's nothing to stop a fox slipping on a channel tunnel train in france and getting over here. It's pretty unlikely admittedly, but they are uber-careful with suspected rabies cases.
