But it's not as if we're paying him an appearance fee.
The £40 million is for things like police overtime, hotel accommodation, and so on - in other words, things that'll feed back into the economy.
The financial argument against the visit doesn't seem to me to stack up...

it's going to put a lot of strain on budgets that have already been cut by 25% in some cases.
This will ultimately lead to either higher taxes or a reduced level of service.
