What software do you guys recommend for getting video into GIF?
Had a bash with CS3 and some flv/avi/mpeg files earlier. All I managed was 200-odd frames of plain white nowtness. :(

is to advance the video a frame at a time in Quicktime Player, screenshotting as I go,
dump all the resulting files into one folder and use "Open Folder As Frames" in
ImageReady, and crop the result. I'm sure there must be much easier ways though.

Try Keep vid.
I am not spamming for another site but this is good for snatching video.

And Virtualdub has the ability to export straight to gif.
EDIT: Both are free (as in both beer and speech).

If you're getting white frames (sound but no picture) when playing the video in PS, you either lack the codecs or it's a format that's not quite recognised.
You should convert the video into mp4 or something, that usually works. Plenty of free converters out there.

I am truly shite at making gifs but I recommend "Keep vid" which captures video for CS3. When you want to convert the mpeg to frames then click "file" and choose "import video" - the rest is fairly straight forward.
Then again, chat to some of the chaps on the board 'cos they're feckin' pass-masters

Seems I was being a biff and I can drag (correctly encoded) MP4 straight into CS3. I was doing the frame import rather than just loading the whole file.
