# OH, SHE'S DREAMY

I'm just sitting here boggling at some of these recipes

# I've seen loads of these recipes recently. I suspect the aim was to discourage people from eating.
As if the recipes themselves weren't already unappetizing enough, they're presented and photographed in the most unpalatable way possible.
I'm pretty sure it's one of those dead art forms: the unappealing presentation of food.

# I've only seen it in 1950s U.S.A. recipes, in old magazines and cookbooks.

the bizarre combinations and presentations that appeal to both sophistication and nutrition, combined with poor colour separation in the printing process, make the end results amazingly lurid.

# Yeah, that site I'm hooked on at the moment is all USA ads.
Dozens of ways to cook spam. And the presentation is so weird... the pic you've linked to is typical of lots of them, food laid out like an English garden, all neatly bordered oblongs. But instead of roses or lilies, it's assmeat and mayonnaise.
