# It really sets in when you start texting like that on your mobile phone
So far I resisted all urges to dumb down my texting - although I don't have any call to text very much.

# Being the grammar Nazi that I am...
I tend to have perfect punctuation in my texts, which is why it takes me quite a bit longer.

Which in turn comes with the bonus of me not sounding like a knobhead.

# I have a mate who TYPES (not texts) like a complete retard and sounds like a dumb woman who doesnt use the internet much
you know - "LOL u betta get ur self togetha what time r u going out"

I took the piss on facebook once, and he took the hump, saying he always struggled with spelling at school.
I thought it was laziness, not an actual spelling problem...

# OMG! LOL what R U like!
Besides the words in your example are very basic words, which even someone who has a bit of a spelling problem should be able to cope with. It sounds more like lazy texting subsituting U for You - Betta for Better etc. doesn't sound like someone who is illiterate this seems to be more like faux phonetics than genuine issues with the spelling - and I'm not so great either I have to spell check quite a lot.
