# I likes your messing so far....
What does your new version do that your old one won't? I'm still using trusty old photoshop7

# It's not so much having a new version
as bothering to try to learn something more than just the lasso tool.

I have CS3. I don't know what it has that 7 doesn't. I used 7 for quite a while but as you can see, I'm only just learning to do some proper stuff so I don't know if I've used anything that 7 doesn't have.

As a rough idea, for this pic I used:

Layer masks
Fill or adjustment layers
Noise and various blur filters
Hue/saturation adjustment
Inner & outer glow
Transform
Difference clouds
Gradient overlay
Various layer blending modes
and a couple of other bits.

90% of that list is new to me.

The impressive bit will be if I remember what any of them do!

# Stunning end result......
I had a cs version, but my poor old PC wasn't up to the job of running it, so never found out what it did, 7 has all the things in you list...

I'm still learning the lasso tool myself ;-)

# I was happy enough with 7
but the missus was determined to get a more up to date version for her photography. I don't know what it does extra but I think it was because most of the magazines she was reading showed how to do things in CS.

CS3 was cheaper than CS4 or CS5 by a LOOOONG way.

# The only thing I know for certain that it does do that 7 won't
And what I'd find really usfull is, it alows you to ajust the softness on the soft edge brushes which would be really usfull

# Does it?
Must work out how to do that.

There's a 'hardness' slider on the brushes, perhaps it's that. I don't remember if that was in 7 or not.

# That's the one, I saw it on a screen grab someone posted once, and thought how great that would be...
7 doesn't have it....

# No,
But I don't really mind. It is like a comfy pair of slippers to me now and if anything it's simplicity adds to my style of drawing.

# I know what you mean....
I like 7's simplicity.....
I have jasc paintshop pro 8 and a relitvly spanky version of coral somewhere as well, but never use either, I just like trusty old 7 :-)
