# or reacting to his business collapsing/world falling apart
shoplifting is often done as a weird subconscious attempt to regain control of a situation.

# I have a Worrall Thompson branded blender and a Worrall Thompson branded roasting dish at home.
I demand to know if these products will attempt to steal from my fridge.

# The roasting dish is a corker, actually.
Very thick bottom and did some great roast potatoes in it at the weekend.

# I understand that perfectly
but to me it seems his situation was different.

Had he snuck a wedge of cheese underneath his jacket and wandered out of the shop, I think it fits that profile.

He actually scanned some items and purposely omitted to scan some items that were probably the most expensive in his basket (wine and cheese).

To me that smacks of a very conscious decision to steal.

It seem to me to be a clear case of old-fashioned nickery and he should be treated like everyone else who is caught nicking.

# Well, he's been cautioned, which is normally what happens to first time middle-class
shoplifters.
