Second one excellent.
Third one a bit shit.
Almost all of the ones after the third one only barely redeemed by Doug Bradley until he finally threw in the towel.

Almost all of the ones after the third one only barely redeemed by Doug Bradley until he finally threw in the towel.

I remember a line where he enters a room full of people saying with a grim smile "Shall we begin?"

It was let down A LOT by not having an orchestral score like the first two, because the film producers stupidly decided that having a heavy metal soundtrack was the way to go. "Oh yeah, we've got a horror film here that sets itself apart from the stalk 'n' slash features everyone else is putting out at the moment, and is all the better for it. Now, how can we make it more like them?"
And I'm a metalhead saying this.

There were a lot of films with a metal soundtrack at the time. Demon Knight, The Crow, this one.

/I'd rather be freaked out by the original Halloween.
The main score alone gives me the creeps every time I hear it.

4 is an Alan Smithee film, it's essentially Hellraiser in Space and is vaguely amusing because the main character is called Rimmer
5 is ok (despite Doug Bradley appearing for barely a second of screentime) but is let down by some terrible scenery-chewing by the main actor
6 has the girl from 1 and 2 return and is ok
7 has Kari Wuhrer in it, wasn't originally a Hellraiser film but was changed to become one...it's a bit odd, and has the intriguing subtitle "Deader"
8 is just bizarre, Lance Henriksson is in it and "Hellraiser" is just an MMORPG that all the kids play
9 is just about passable, though the lack of Doug Bradley really, really shows

The last one came out just last year, and I keep hearing rumours of a remake in the works

Let's say I'll just watch the first one and see if I like it at all before I continue to the second one.

In my small circle of horror movie buffs, I'm the one who likes Hellraiser, I'm kinda used to giving the lowdown on them these days
Let me know how you get on :)

The sequels that followed had a guy with nails in his head fucking shit up.
Hellraiser 2 also has Kenneth Cranham in it. If you know his work, you'll understand why I mention it.

Seems that's the basic theme of a series going on for too long: let's fuck some more shit up

if you fast-forward all the bits with the annoying teens
