Having known quite a lot of East Asian people
it seems rice is as common in their diets as wheat is in the average European's, if not more so. Their knowledge of different subtypes of rice and how to prepare it can be phenomenal. I've probably only shopped in four or five branches of Tescos though, so can't compare accurately.
