# I've seen that, it's got quite some mould on it these days

# Sorry - I'm coming from a jaded perspective
I've seen enough of this sort of thing that it gets a bit samey.

# You've seen a lot of sculpted heads made from the artist's blood?
Or just body parts in general?
WELL?

# Yes, both
In all the combinations you can think of!

# Not necessarily going the whole way and filling a mold of your head with your own blood
and most of these things don't make the news, but body parts are pretty standard subjects - cast them in gold, mold them in latex and 'gore them up' etc.
- it's of interest to artists for obvious reasons and blood may be involved (e.g. used tampons is a recurring theme).

I actually like MQ - I think he has done some fabulous sculptures - but the form of the human body is more where my interest in his work lies.
The Selfs aren't my cup of tea, I'm not massively keen on blood used in this way, but I appreciate that this is completely subjective.
I just thought it was funny for the image challenge to restore the original badly in such a way that the original purpose had lost it's meaning.

Don't get me wrong - the YBAs have made a great impact on U.K. art and the purpose is to make us think. They have also inspired young artists and that can't be a bad thing :)

# Marc Quinn's "Self"
7 pints of his own blood in a mould of his own head.
It requires a refrigeration unit to keep it stable.
And he makes a new one every 5 years.

# Mould?
In liquid nitrogen?

(It's a great piece, though. I also like his "Lucas".)
