# If you smoke his skin, it gets you high.

# Quite rightly.
Leftly.

Whatever!

Lots of unexpected good news today: four states voted on equal rights for minorities, and for the first time in American history (I'm pretty sure it was the first time) it actually went the right way in not one but all four cases.

We need to wait until at least the 20th to find out whether California (of all places) can be gay as fuck too, until then we can hang out in Washington (the state) and Colorado and smoke 'frop. Seriously, is the world actually becoming sane again within Morrissy's lifetime?

# We're just glad you guys made the right choice.
Republican Presidents always make me nervous.

# 98% of Republicans vote against their own best interest, which is just creepy to me.
Like eating your own limbs for survival creepy.

Thanks for your support and for the whole Ouija board thing, that turned my head around.

# Trust me, most of us are.
I really was terrified that more than half of the country were idiots.

# Just reading up on the equal rights decisions.
Wondering how it would have panned out had Romney been elected. Arguably not so well.

Good job you guys, you made the right choice.

# I'm shocked.
Not by you but by America and not having the vote stolen (see 2000, 2004) and by good people showing up to vote for good things.

I'm such a pessimist that these things shocked me, I still don't quite believe it.

# From what I can gather
Lots of people now believe that the US is now a socialist state and they are either moving to (socialist) Canada or (socialist) Australia or launching a treasonous military coup.

Should be a fun few months

# I will admit, I was rather worried at first.
But I guess it's incidents like this that show America still believes in good, and not self-interest.

Oh, and I don't know if it's been confirmed or not, but marijuana is now legal in Colorado, correct?
(, Wed 7 Nov 2012, 9:22, archived)
# It looks that way.
Last time I checked it was Colorado and Washington state. It actually failed to go in Oregon.
California in the meanwhile has southern California to contend with, they set us back to about 1940 for some unknown reason.
(, Wed 7 Nov 2012, 9:34, archived)
# Though I assume it would be only for medicinal use.
Yes, you mentioned before about having to wait till the 20th. I always thought states were one lump-sum vote for or against something, I had no idea counties/boroughs were taken into account too.
(, Wed 7 Nov 2012, 9:47, archived)
# Sorry,
California's supreme court decided that the right to marry is a religious freedom. Some churches showed that you could vote it down (Prop 8) and a slight majority did (the map of counties that did and didn't looks like a map of desirable places to live, btw).

It's still tied up, the Supreme Court of the USA put off hearing it (or deciding not to) until after the election. If they won't hear it: instant equal rights in my state. If they do hear it it will affect the whole country. Nobody who wants equality is sure which way they'd rather see it go.

Ideally it goes for the whole country, the only downside would be that it takes until the middle of next year to finish. 25% of the country this month, the whole pie in June . . . I'm feeling optimistic either way.
(, Wed 7 Nov 2012, 10:05, archived)
# Surely the right to marry is more legal than religious nowadays?
Or as it's dressed up as, civil partnership.

Having Obama come back for another term has definitely swung things in equal rights' favour, though it is a bit of a gamble if the issue IS heard in Supreme Court. Regardless, I'm sure America will make the right choice, they certainly did in this case.
(, Wed 7 Nov 2012, 10:19, archived)
# Right now it's looking like dominos.
Except that they're falling up.

Looking back we may wish that we had more time to watch the haters fall and choke on it, but I do want it to be over with.

So much progress in one day though (it's still four states I think, plus the better one in office, plus a lot of other good people in other offices).

# Er, but apparently 98% of republicans vote against their own self interest
which, because they apparently come from the opposite political camp from you, is not a good, principled position, but just extremely creepy. Oysters said this just up there ^. I think you two should debate the matter, for consistency.
(, Wed 7 Nov 2012, 11:33, archived)
# None of you know what you're talking about.
Reading your vapid comments is painful. Presently sixteen trillion dollars run up in national debt conservatively projected twenty trillion dollars national debt. Is it possible for this to sink in? Please tell me, because I'm being called a racist and I'm being called homophobic due to my concern for this, why doesn't sixteen trillion dollars debt resonate?

You do know gay people can get married whenever they fu*king want. I am a gay man, so I know personally that I can marry whoever I want whenever I care to. You do know the whole gay marriage thing is a State concern anyway and doesn't even bear on Federal law. But even there it's a false grievance narrative. Homosexuals are already normalized. Please, knock it off with fighting for my rights, I don't need any more special rights. I already have them. I'm already legally protected up and down and through and through, I can already marry, always could, and I can already adopt kids if I cared to. Likewise I could go with the program and marry a woman! This whole thing is bs and you're all just suckers for energizing it. Especially when nonsense like this metastasizes into continuous charges or racism and homophobia all to advance to twenty trillion dollars in national debt which in a rational world that is not b3ta would be the single most important overriding concern.
(, Wed 7 Nov 2012, 11:18, archived)
# You're funny
The way you are talking sounds like the books were balanced when Obama came in four years ago and he spent that twelfty trillions on himself. So good old Bush never spent any money or put the country into debt with his daft wars?

Politics is a funny old place of twisted histories and blinkered points of view.
(, Wed 7 Nov 2012, 11:47, archived)
# Sounds like, if your sole concern was reducing national debt
you'd vote for the democratic party?

You didn't actually say this, it's just what it sounds like, and for that matter kombu dashi didn't actually say anything about republicans.

# Wrong side of the pond...
I just found the rant funny to read. But I'm on the wrong side of the pond to do anything. We have just as big a mess over here with a different choice between a different set of idiots.
