was PE that taught me the futility of rugby 'cos I'm not violent in the slightest and always ended up opposing teams who were. And that was just the girls.

That sounds like a

plausible reason to me.

I always got picked to play in goal or defence, I had a mystical ability for getting hit in the bollocks by the ball from any shot.

I got picked in PE

but where I grew up soccer was eventually banned because they felt that elementary school kids shouldn't be trying to kill each other during sports. So they made us play football instead. heh.

Mainly because if our great aunts and grandparents heard us talking about football and found out we weren't talking about the Dallas Cowboys, well... there'd be hell to pay.
