# are you saying it wouldnt be nice
to have a road to yourself where you could get top speed out of your car with no fear of death/arrest?
at least i think thats what the petition was...

# I read that as
fear of death / armrests?
that's my fear anyway.

# They're called racetracks.
And are only for real cars, not a supermini with a large exhaust glued onto the back.

I'm just cocky cos I've bought a merc

# I am actually with you on that one,
just go to a track and get on with it. Stop bloody moaning.
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 15:16, archived)
# Or go go-karting.
Which is great fun for a day out, and feels pretty fast because you're so low on the ground.

# go karting is cool
but i've only ever raced against very small, or very thing people, so i had no chance

tonight i shall go "cruzin" in my radded up clio.

# I went go carting a few weeks ago
on holiday. it was ace. i think i might become a world famous grand prix driver next.

# It am the most fun!
Last time I went I spat the dummy though. We did the day-long tournament thing, and I was 6th on the grid in the final. I was up to third and about to overtake when the clutch went in my kart. I threw my helmet doan and stormed off like a right stroppy get. Not my finest hour.

# blimey - you sound like Mr P.
He says hes not competitve but if he's been on a work go carting trip he will give you minute details about everything - go on about getting fastest laps, moan about other 'idiots - IDIOTS' in the team etc etc. Makes me laugh actually

# Pah
Girls can't drive...

;-)
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 15:23, archived)
# we could test that.
I could get in the driving seat of a car, with the keys, you could stand about 50 meters away and I'll see if i can make it that far, and what speed I'm doing when i get there. Mind you, if i can't find the brake then don't blame me, i have got long hair.
;0)

# Only if you use my car
State its in, it probably wouldn't make 50 meters...
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 15:32, archived)
# i could push it
the cars I've had, I got alot of practise.
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 15:36, archived)
# Can't you pay
to go on private racetracks? I thought you could.
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 15:15, archived)
# Indeed you can
£160 for a day at Silverstone, similar for Brands Hatch. Smaller, less famous tracks (and there are a few) also do open-track days, generally for about £70/80.
I needed 4 new tyres after a day at Castle Coomb though..

# Not really...
I have an aversion to poorly-maintained, shoddily-made lumps of steel & aluminium being driven by morons at very high speeds*

*unless its off a cliff of course
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 15:17, archived)
# Yeah
that's what I guessed too, but the petition makes no mention of a solution - just demands one from someone else.
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 15:19, archived)
# They are called "Autobahn"
and are pretty common around here
