i shrunk it by 50% AND shrank the filesize. it must be the egg. bloody chickens.

you could reduce the number of colours and the file size would be titchy

gifs use a colour map for optimisation of up to 256 colours, but if you limit it to say 8 colours when you're working with black and white the map is smaller, so the image is smaller. that probably doesn't make any sense, but it is true
