Anyone know much about Carbon Monoxide?

We've got this alarm thing and in the year or so we've had it I've never heard it beep once...now it's beeping every 2 or three minutes. On the back it says 'The Siren Will Sound' which I'm ashuming is more than the pathetic beep it's giving off now...more like the one it gives during testing.

I've opened the windows and doors, turned the fire and heating off and sat here freezing for about half an hour and the fucking thing's still doing it so I've threw it outside in the nice clean air...maybe it just needs batteries. I dunno, I'm not a 'Carbon Monoxide Alarm Testing Guy' It's a sealed unit, I can't take these batteries out to put new ones in to make sure it's not playing tricks on me. What else can I do to make sure I'm not going to die?...any one know?

- but the windows thing is a good idea, check out for feeling sleepy and lips going blueish - nip out grab batteries pop them in, should be fine. Don't use any gas equipt. before you do this

but they don'tdeal with faulty appliances, only what happens on the mains - they will deal with a gas leak on your property by turning up, turning the gas off and buggering off.

smoke alarms do that too. Try sticking it somewhere with lots of CO gas (an oven? I dont know) and see if it goes off, if it does, you're probably going to be fine

but they are good, only last a few months and you have to look at them to check.
Some student unions (well mine, dunno about anywhere else) sell them cheap, 1.95 for two IIRC

It's the batteries. Call the gas emergency line, they will come round and tell you its the batteries. The end.
