about 1 in 15 people can never see magic eye pictures
because their brains can't process what they're seeing in stereo. I learnt something at uni!

is because you are viewing the images cross-eyed. You're focusing in front of the book. To get the intended effect, one focuses his eyes beyond the pages.

i have an eye condition called ambliopia, and cant process three dimentional information by pure eyesight (the brain makes up for it with experence), so i've never been able to see those things
