# seeing as we are posting ditties
The invention
of weights and measures
Makes robbery easier.
Signing contracts, settings seals,
Makes robbery more sure.
Teaching love and duty
Provides a fitting language
With which to prove that robbery
Is really for the general good.
A poor man must swing
For stealing a belt buckle
But if a rich man steals a whole state
He is acclaimed
As statesman of the year.

# Chuang Tsu is great
but I tried to read larger sections of The Inner Chapters and it just made me want to smack him. He sometimes took a little too long to get to the point. But reading the selections "translated" by Thomas Merton was an experience of it's own. Especially the one about the Breath of Nature.
(, Sun 10 Apr 2005, 3:54, archived)
# yeah i've heard he's not the best translation
but sadly it's the only i have. I'd love to read it in madarin but only learnt the 'pictive' for moutain, man and inside
(, Sun 10 Apr 2005, 3:58, archived)
# no, no, I just meant it's not really a translation from the original Chinese
Merton's is the best I've read so far. If you know a better one I'd be eager to check it out, though

# I've only read about it on here
They don't seem to hold merton in very high regard

But i've not read the others either
