Newbie Tuesday got hosed. The admins were kind enough to fix me up, but the date must be the default... looks like it defaults to jan 1 1970

is the Unix epoch, year 0 as far as *nix based OSes are concerned, generally, and this site runs on a *nix. Your sign-up date will have been deleted or not added to the database properly, so it shows up as 01/01/1970 instead.
