# wow, that's a bit good ashle..

tj:
what's the best codec pack for video playback?
I've been having problems for a while now and I'm sick of it
(, Sun 19 Mar 2006, 15:59, archived)
# shit, there are hundreds of codecs
DivX is the most popular for avi.
Or download a program called Gspot, which identifies which codec you need for the video.

(, Sun 19 Mar 2006, 16:06, archived)
# ah k-lite
bringer of doom and bloated shiteware ;)

# hmm

# try
www.afterdawn.com It's the tits for all video information.
(, Sun 19 Mar 2006, 16:20, archived)
# what format do you want to convert them to then?
as it's likely that a coder/decoder package on it's own won't help, you will need some kind of software to encode the files first.

# codec packs
are nothing but trouble and are often the cause of problems. You should fuck it all off and just install DivX, Xvid, and Ogg Vorbis. If you need any more than that it would be very odd. What you ought to do is google real alternative and install that ( it's also called media player classic ) and with those three codecs and that player you il have no problem ( unless you need quicktime as well then google quicktime alternative )

You can get Ace Mega codec pack but you have no need of 30-40 resource hungry codecs.
(, Sun 19 Mar 2006, 16:07, archived)
# what?
I have the k-lite and have no problems at all.

in fact if my memory serves, it installs real alternative. teh biggest bloatware out there is apples bloody quicktime, (itunes even if you dont want it) followed by that other bastard realmedia...
(, Sun 19 Mar 2006, 16:12, archived)
# yeah that's why I said
quicktime alternative. As I was saying, you just need a player that manages all files and as well as the windows installed codecs you want the three above. Anything else os pointless
