lots of us use imageready - it comes with photoshop 6 (and possibly higher). if you've used photoshop it's really straightforward.

although I do find it really nice to do post-production or late additions to images using Image Ready, the original creation still seems simpler in something like Animation Shop.
I used to use Ulead GIF Animator for optimisation, but IR seems very capable at this too, so it's superceded Ulead.

or GIMP (which is free, I believe).
Or you can even make them with Macromedia Flash!

1) Can't draw for toffee
2) Tried to host a pic, followed all instructions, it laughed at me.
Latest idea followed an email from my sister, apparently my niece plays 6 instruments in her playschool concert and I had a mental image of this 4 year old one-man-band...

lovely ms-dos looking screen, type lcd c:\ etc etc, type bin, type put nameofpic.jpg, and that's where it all falls apart and tells me it can't find the file or some such nonsense.

the file first then store the new one. what you really want is an ftp program. google for "free ftp software" or somesuch. i use robot ftp and leech ftp can be good too

You can start with a first and last frames and let "tweening" build the rest or add/duplicate frames as you go. Export to animated GIF.
