bah. there's an odd glitch now i've saved with a transparent background.

Ah, now that you mention it I see the glitch. One of the frames is not disposing properly. Is this a straight export from Flash?

# i rarely go straight out of flash as i find the compression is a bit pants
i take each frame out as a png and then have a bit of code to import them into fireworks to generate the gif there
i had trouble with this anyhow (Flash seems to get confused with multi-layer graphics with effects on) then it was ok with the coloured background.
i *think* i'm hitting some weird bug...

I didn't get along with fireworks at all. You don't use PS do you? Do you use the gimp?

It does look like a frame disposal issue.

i occasionally use the gimp but pretty much all my photo stuff is in corel photopaint, everything animated is in flash.
i only use fireworks for the gif optimisation, i've never got on with it for actually making anything.
