# Number 1? That's only 'cos it was the B-side
to Funky Moped ;-)

# uhmm
I thought it was a double A side ?
(, Sun 5 Jan 2003, 23:16, archived)
# Magic Roundabout was the A everyone wanted
Funky Moped was most definately a B! (even if it was a double-A, which I can neither confirm nor deny due to over-population by spider corpses)

EDIT: I was wrong, and admit it - scroll down...

# It was BANNED BY THE BBC!!!!
why?

because it's crap

# Haha
but no, 'twas a simpler time back then, when spoken word didn't get played on TOTP, when TOTP was known as "Top Of The Pops", and when swearing on the Beeb was as common as a good program on ITV. (Well, ok, that last statement has always held true...)

# 'everyone's gone to the moon'
got played

Neil 'There's a Hole In My Shoe'
did too.

# Where's the swearies
in Hole In My Shoe?

I don't remember who did the other one so I can't comment...

# i thought you were talking about spoken word
i didn;'t read the whole thread sorry.

'There's a hole in my shoe, and it's time for some slaughter, time for some slaughter...'

# S'alright...
I out-fnorded Fnord! :-)

Hole In My Shoe has some music and singing though, Magic Roundabout is just a 5 minute standup routine. Can you imagine Hot Gossip trying to dance to that?

# i thought you were talking about funky moped
oh well.

# Aha
but I out carroted you there with a reference from a later piece of carrot material...

# Just checked me "collectors" vinyl
Neither side has "side A" or "Side B", so It guess it must be a double A side platter then.
(, Sun 5 Jan 2003, 23:24, archived)
# Oh, 'ark at 'im!
"collectors" vinyl... 'tweren't never released as no collectors edition, was it?

and even if it was, that's not the original pressing (sound the G for the full effect of this post)

Ah well... either way, people bought it for Magic Roundabout, and all he ever got to inflict on Jimmy Saville's groupies was Funky Moped.

BOING!
(, Sun 5 Jan 2003, 23:26, archived)
# 'tis a collectors item though.
Cost me all of 3 quid ;-) Must be worth at least £3.50 now.
That and the best of Bernard Cribbens. Still ain't got anything to play them on though. I did buy it for "Funky Moped" though. Magic roundabout was an added bonus.
(, Sun 5 Jan 2003, 23:33, archived)
# You must be
the only person in the history of Funky Moped to buy it for Funky Moped! :-)

I have a turntable that I'm pretty sure still works, and that connects to modern hi-fis...?
(, Sun 5 Jan 2003, 23:35, archived)
# I bought it because
as a nipper there was a local pirate radio station (Remember them? oldies?) that played none stop comedy records. Well none stop for about a month til they got busted. Don't know how they got caught, what with a 30 foot aerial sticking out of their balcony 10 floors up a council flat. He he he.

# Right...
A side - Funky Moped. Which was crap

B side - Mgic Roundabout

Song got to number FOUR I seem to remember. Carrott was God's gift to stand-up.

# Oh poo
Right, I admit I was wrong:
The Jeff Lynne produced "Funky Moped" hit the number 5 spot in the
charts in August 1975 and led to Carrotts appearance on "Top Of The Pops", which is probably
best forgotten! But actually the public were buying the record for it's 'B' side
"Magic Roundabout", the sordid tale of some risque un-filmed TV scripts from the popular
children's series "Boing - Said Zebedee!"

From www.jaspercarrott.co.uk - it also has soundfiles for those who've not heard either song!

# I can hear you,
said Florence, it's not true. Noddy and I are just good friends!"
"Rubbish," said Dougal, "it's all over the canteen. Everyone knows about you you brazen hussy!"
"You Lousy old fleabag!" said Florence. "Call yourself a dog? I've seen better hairs on a lavatory brush!"

did I really just type that?
(, Sun 5 Jan 2003, 23:50, archived)
#
I wasn't gonna mention it...
but I did almost re-listen just so I could type a quote, WY you!

# :)
I loved the earlier stuff he did like Pain In The Arm and Rabbits On And On; the Jersey sketch had me rolling in the aisles, or rather it would've done if I'd been listening to it in a church. Or a supermarket.
