Owls cannot rotate their heads 360 degrees
270 max, otherwise their heads pop off

You've never seen a popped owls head....
I find them all the time :o)
// Owls appear to be able to rotate their head completely around. This total rotation is just an illusion. Often, they sit with their head looking over their shoulder to prevent predators from sneaking up behind them. If they hear a noise which they can't see the source, they will turn their head quickly to the front, then to the other shoulder. This rotation is about 270 degrees of a circle, not 360 degrees. For comparison, a flexible human can turn their head less than 180 degrees.

Why don't they just look forward
and turn round if something is behind them? otherwise they might get an awful crick

they can tilt their necks up
if you ever see one take off, watch its head, it lowers its body, spreads its wings, and keeps it eyes on where its going

I think I'd like this to be true
but better judgement tells me it's not.
Thinking about it, I've actually seen them looking up.. aww..
