
for shadows, what I do is
1) cut out a rough shape around the person
2) make a new layer and fill the shape black
3) make sure the 'show bounding box' thingy is checked
4) hold down Ctrl when clicking the corners/sides of the bounding box and make it the correct shape by dragging them
5) reduce the opacity or change the colour of the selection - just to make the colours look right

but i make the shadow layer to be 'darken' and adjust the opacity to make it blend (with a touch of gaussian blur for the hell of it)
