# I am recently of the opinion that b3ta should scrap the weekly image challenge
as it just pollutes the board with crap* and pushes all the good stuff off.

Either that, or contest entries should have their own dedicated board.

*obviously there are some great image entries, but many, many more shit ones.

# We have crap and good stuff on the board regardless of compo entries
and if we didn't have crap, we'd have nothing to measure the good stuff against.

# ^this
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:15, archived)
# This is a good point
but gawd, there has been a lot of tut on the boards over the last few weeks. It's one long Tuesday!
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:16, archived)
# That's OK though, isn't it?
If we encouraged the less talented people instead of shouting 'Fail' and similarly hurtful things, we might improve the overall standard of the board.

Many of us, me included, were rubbish when we started here and have benefited from friendly B3tans giving encouragement and/or constructive criticism.

# FAIL.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:19, archived)
# "Fail" is encouragement.
It encourages people not to fail.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:20, archived)
# You are right on that
but the problem seems to be that the vast majority of people who are crap don't actually take our advice.
They consistently post bollocks on the board with massive filesizes, and ignore any attempt to help them.
That's when the 'FAIL' pictures come out.

I agree though, b3ta should be more fluffy, and I'm not helping :(
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:21, archived)
# but its people that just do not give a shit about b3ta at all
that cannot be bothered to look down 4 inches to see that people just sticking ginger wigs on any old picture are getting flamed. And that do not listen when given friendly advice.

That's ok - mine will be much better!1!!11oneoneone

CUNTYBOLLOCKS. B3ta is going to the fucking dogs.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:21, archived)
# That's a fair point
But there are a lot of people who don't understand things very quickly.

You're right that there are people who are just annoying and ignore advice but we feed them by giving them attention.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:24, archived)
# Good point well made
I'll still mock the failers though. Tis the B3ta way!
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:22, archived)
# but image challenges encourage 'easy' opportunities for people that wouldnt normally bother posting
like this one - put a ginger wig an any old picture and post it, seems to be the order of the day.

WANK WANK WANK.

(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:17, archived)
# And If the board only allowed good stuff
then new people would never post and learn/improve
and B3ta would stagnate
I wellcome new talent
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:20, archived)
# I completely agree
my point is that the image challenge encourages a much larger percentage of '20 second mspaint' type efforts - and depsite constant moans and suggestions from other members about the shitness of it all - no one seems to pay a blind bit of notice, and continually posts the same shit over and over.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:23, archived)
# Does it not blow over after a couple of days?
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:26, archived)
# unfortuantely not.
Another suggestion - have the image challenge starting mondays and ending wednesdays, so at least we have a a few days where the board isn't full of identikit crap.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:27, archived)
# It's a thought.
But a shorter amount of time in which to create the entries would just make people think they have to rush shit out, wouldn't it?

Mind you, people think that already, so it won't be much of a difference ._.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:28, archived)
# i'd just steer clear of b3ta until thursdays
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:30, archived)
# Announce the subject of the challenge on say Monday
but prevent any entries until say Wednesday
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:57, archived)
# We wouldn't have to wait for it to blow over if the challenge didn't exist :P
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:27, archived)
# Good point
I don't know if it seriously bothers many people though - or just a vocal minority. Hmmm... maybe I should do another survey...

And thanks Mugatu for starting an interesting discussion. :)

# To be honest I'm not all that bothered.
I do get a bit annoyed with streams of shit posts - but b3tans make it better by replying to the shit posts with funny posts. FAIL pics, funny comments or just plain reposts can make a useless thread worthwile.

Although I sometimes think it'll be funnier if shit posts didn't get any replies or attention at all. Just sunk to the bottom of the board, completely disregarded :D
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:33, archived)
# It does happen
to all of us ;)
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:37, archived)
# I think the secondary board option
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:14, archived)
# ^this.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:15, archived)
# I agree
I haven't liked the image challenge for a while - notably the dire top trumps one and the 'years too late' 9/11 one.

They're as annoying as bandwagons now.
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:15, archived)
# I'm for scrapping.
If the challenge is crap, people still feel compelled to post crap for it even though they know it's crap. Why? Why don't they spend some time on it and make it good, or just not post it at all?
(, Thu 7 Jun 2007, 14:16, archived)
# ^This
Shit posts don't bother me too much. It's the shit ones where they go, "Quick and rubbish and massive filesize and been done a million times before, not funny and doesn't deserve its own thread, so I'll start a new thread with it anyway," that annoy me.
