I couldn't unfortunately.
Took the missus to visit her uncle in hospital.
It seems he's developed dementia. He was all confused and lost a lot of weight and looked really frail. She was pretty upset :(

Yeah
it wasn't nice. Her dad is a grade A cunt and this uncle was always like a father to her. It was a real shock for her seeing him like that.

They're trying to find a nursing home for him.
There's no way we could take him. We don't have room and we've got a baby on the way.
At least where he'll go into care his brother and nephew will be nearby.

She's not really
although it sounds like he's improved a bit since he went into hospital. It was all a bit sudden so hopefully this is just an episode and he'll get better, at least some of the time.
she was in floods of tears as soon as we left because she said it seemed like he just wasn't there any more. It was horrible.

Yeah, I've seen it happen a few times
It's really nothing that can be described well, you feel like that person will always be there, and if you lost them it would be pretty sudden, dealing with someone gradually deteriating is fucking rough, and that moment of it all hitting you that they seem like they've checked out (even for a bit) is devastating.
Please send my best wishes to your missus, if appropriate, and virtual hugs to you both
