Instead of doing it as an optical illusion (there is no X at all in either of the previous images) I could have just used a Photoshop pre-set gradient and done this:

Not quite the same though, eh?
[EDIT: Actually, seeing them next to each other here, I am quite pleased at how well the illusion works.]

I was well chuffed with the optical illusion of the cross formed with concentric squares of solid colour, but you prefer FLITORZ, so I must had away and cry.
