I'm all for old school and fondly remember such things as day of the tentacle, Darkseed 1 and 2 plus legend of kyrandia.
I've recently purchased this www.amigaforever.com/ ( again, I lost it a couple of years ago ) and may just play them all again.

and it's still superb. All this talk of GTAIV just makes me want to go back to GTAII, too.

but I ended up quite liking it, especially when you'd finished all the missions for one gang, earning the eternal hatred of another,a nd then went on a massive killing spree to balance it back up again. They don't even fight back much for a while because you're so much in their good books.

with a vengeance. I'm just so poor at anything that involves driving that rather than fail I just don't attempt. I sold my PS2 because i failed at gran turismo even though I loved it. ( but then I have a real gran turismo car so i console myself with that)

I've actually never even tried to play GTAIII or above but I and II are two of my favourite games. I suck at proper driving games, though. Years back I got a copy of Grand Prix Legends and tried to take one of the 1968 F1 cars around the Nurburgring.
Not successful.

just under 9 minutes for real with me driving and is a special nurburgring edition. Another car like it with a better driver holds the lap record ( or did, I don't keep up with these things now ).

but the internet says that around 30. I would say it _is_ long. There are a couple of puzzles where you may get stuck, but the rest are just wonderful for thinking and trying.
I love the sci-fi parts of the game, but the fantasy parts are just as wonderful. The atmosphere, the scenarios, the characters and their stories... The game is win.
The second one lacks in many ways. The only "nice" parts for me were the factory and the Newport remake. It was mediocre compared to the first, but still stunning somehow.
