good song.

Also: can someone help me with firefox?
I've just downloaded it cos i'm using a really old slow laptop and was told it would run faster than IE.
It installed fine, but now won't connect to any page at all, even though IE is working fine.

The connection has timed out
The server at www.google.co.uk is taking too long to respond.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I've added it to the exceptions on the Windows firewall but no success. any ideas?

[apologies for my terminal stupidity.]

FIXED! *happies*

# Does it work when you shut down the firewall?
(, Sat 24 May 2008, 15:19, archived)
# nope.
i just switched the firewall off entirely. still nothing.
the only thing i can think of is that this computer runs so slow that firefox is timing out before it connects, even though there IS a connection. but i can't find an option to lengthen the time-out time. [and i could be talking total bollocks...]

# firefox seems to
have a pitifully low timeout threshold.
I have a 20Mb connection but if I have any kind of uploading going on in the background all my pages in FF will timeout.
Firefox 3 RC1 has just been released, I'm going to try tat to see if there is any change.

# i got it going!
apparently it needed weirdness involving proxies and ports and scary stuffs.

yay. thank you for your help b3tapeoples! *hugs*

# Hmmm
I never have that problem with FF2
(, Sat 24 May 2008, 15:34, archived)
# Probably one of the settings if you type about:config in the addess bar changes the timeout time.
maybe network.http.keep-alive.timeout?
(, Sat 24 May 2008, 15:34, archived)
# Yeah.
It's been annoying and confusing for some time because it used to be fine. I changed nothing in the config apart from the netmax half open value and I have done that forever with no problems.
As soon as I have any p2p network transfer FF2 will fail to find a page a good 90% of the time.

Edit:// and now it works fine with the update. Shame that none of my addons work apart from adblock. If adblock had been borked it would have been out of the window.
I'm on FF3 RC1 now, just installed it so I'm back to whatever those defaults are and I'll give it a test run to see if it has changed anything.

# how much does a 20mb connection set the man about town back?
(, Sat 24 May 2008, 16:18, archived)
# it all depends upon the package you get.
but on its own it is a tenner a month for 3 months and then £20 a month after that. It has come down, I was paying £35 for it.
The good news is that it is expected to go up to 50MB this year for the same price.

# doing girly wailings to a knowledgable techy type
until he talked me through fixing it.

# Coz what you were watching wasn't the Luke Perry classic Teen Angel
Teen Anal always had porn music though.
