# as far as i am aware
he 'endorses' charity so he gives some time. No actual money out of his own pocket.

# To generalize....
If MrHorrible's figures are correct and U2 made $255m last year - or in 2005 ;D ...

Split that 4 ways (each band member) = $63m
Divide by 12 (months in the year) = $5.3m
Divide by 20 (working days a month - he takes a few days off a month) = $265,625
Divide by 7 (hours of work a day - he doesn't work through lunch) = $37,946 per hour

So every hour he's standing at the front of a charity function he's giving them $37,946
And how much have you given this year?

:D (don;t bother arguing I'm joking with these numbers obviously)

# I'd say that is quite impressive

also: last year wasn't 2005

# I wouldn't argue with that much to spend on sweets

# I think time is of much more value to him than money anyway

So he's not buying off his conscience by giving large sums of money. Good.

# He loses nothing by doing it, I'm guessing most of the money is royalties which roll in anyway.
Plus, as mentioned, he gets the significant publicity benefits from doing it.

# Well more than that obviously
I'm not tight you know!
